Frank Fritz, Former 'American Pickers' Host, Passes Away Two Years After Stroke

Reality star and former *American Pickers* host Frank Fritz has passed away at the age of 58. His death on Monday, September 30, comes two years after suffering a debilitating stroke in October 2022.

“It’s with a broken heart that I share with all of you that Frank passed away last night,” Fritz’s former co-star Mike Wolfe announced on Instagram on Tuesday, October 1.

Alongside a photo of the two together, Wolfe reflected on their long friendship, writing: “I’ve known Frank for more than half my life, and what you saw on TV was exactly what I saw off-camera—a dreamer who was just as sensitive as he was funny. He had a unique way of touching people’s hearts by simply being himself. Who would have ever dreamed we’d share the cockpit of a white cargo van in front of millions of viewers, just exploring and discovering together?"

Wolfe continued, “Before the show, we would set off to places we never knew existed, with no destination in mind and only the shared passion for finding something interesting and historic. We’ve been on countless trips, and I’m blessed to have been by his side when he took his final journey home. I love you, buddy, and I’ll miss you so much. I know you’re in a better place.”

Born in Davenport, Iowa, Fritz became a fan favorite as the longtime co-host of *American Pickers*, where he and Wolfe traveled across the U.S. searching for rare artifacts to sell at their Antique Archaeology stores in Le Claire, Iowa, and Nashville, Tennessee. Fritz left the show in March 2020 after undergoing back surgery and was later replaced by Wolfe’s brother, Mike, in July 2021.

In October 2022, Fritz was placed under temporary guardianship following a stroke that left him unable to communicate or manage his financial affairs.

Following his death, The History Channel and *American Pickers* production company Cineflix Productions released a joint statement: “Frank filmed *American Pickers* for over a decade. We will always remember ‘the bearded charmer’ and his unending search for vintage motorcycles and bikes. Our thoughts are with Frank’s loved ones during this difficult time. He will be deeply missed.”

In addition to his work on *American Pickers*, Fritz also made appearances on other History Channel shows, including *Pawn Stars* and *American Restoration*, and lent his voice to an episode of *Family Guy*.
