Real Madrid vs. Man City Final Score: UEFA Champions League Result & Stats as Mbappé's Hat-Trick Dominates Guardiola's Side

Kylian Mbappe delivered a stellar performance with a sensational hat-trick as Real Madrid triumphed 3-1 over Manchester City at the Santiago Bernabeu, advancing 6-3 on aggregate in the UEFA Champions League knockout playoffs.

The victory followed a dramatic 3-2 win for Carlo Ancelotti's side in Manchester last week. From the outset, Real Madrid dominated, with Mbappe striking early in the fourth minute after exploiting City's high defensive line, a sign of things to come.

Mbappe’s second goal, a product of a stunning team move, came in the 33rd minute, and the French forward completed his hat-trick just after the hour mark. A late consolation goal from former Barcelona youth player Nico Gonzalez, who scored in stoppage time, did little to soften the blow for City, who were outclassed on the night.

Real Madrid's lineup (4-2-3-1) was led by Thibaut Courtois in goal, while City (4-3-3) faced a significant blow with Erling Haaland relegated to the bench due to a knee issue. With no Haaland to spearhead their attack, City struggled to break through Madrid's resolute defense.

Mbappe’s early strike set the tone, as he latched onto a brilliant long pass from Federico Valverde, shrugging off Ruben Dias before calmly finishing past Ederson. The City defense was shaken, with Stones forced off injured in the 7th minute, and Nathan Ake replacing him. Despite a few defensive adjustments, City couldn't contain Madrid's attacking force.

Rodrygo, Jude Bellingham, and Vinicius Junior all played key roles in Madrid’s second goal, with Mbappe putting the finishing touch to a brilliant team move. The third goal arrived shortly after, as Mbappe's individual brilliance once again left Josko Gvardiol in his wake, before slotting home with ease.

Manchester City, having created little in attack, failed to break down Madrid’s defense in the second half. Despite a couple of City attempts, including a free-kick from Omar Marmoush that hit the crossbar, it was clear that Madrid had the game under control. Nico Gonzalez's stoppage-time strike was little more than a footnote in an otherwise one-sided contest.

The defeat marks City’s earliest Champions League exit since the 2012/13 season, while Madrid continue their pursuit of yet another European title, with everything seemingly possible in a competition that they have so often mastered.
