Helene Severely Damages Asheville Water System: Ongoing Repairs Underway

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — A preliminary assessment on Saturday morning, Sept. 28, revealed significant damage to Asheville’s water system caused by Hurricane Helene, according to a release from the City of Asheville.


The city's Water Resources Department is already initiating the procurement process for necessary equipment and personnel to conduct extensive repairs to the water system.

Christy Edwards, spokesperson for the City of Asheville, provided an update on the restoration efforts:


"Hurricane Helene was a generational event. While it is impossible to provide an exact timeline, restoring service will be a lengthy process. We appreciate your patience as we dedicate every resource to rebuilding the damaged parts of our water system."

The City of Asheville advises residents who still have water access to fill bathtubs and containers in preparation for possible service interruptions. A boil water advisory remains in effect.
